Wanaka is one of the most beautiful ski resorts in the world with beautiful scenery of lake Wakana.

Wanaka is one of the most popular ski / snowboard destinations in New Zealand. There are six international ski areas in Wanaka including Cardorona, Treble Cone, Snow Farm, Snow Park,Coronet Peak and The Remarkables and those ski resort offer you terrains and slopes that are suitable for beginners to experts. Wanaka is also the only ski area in New Zealand that was ranked in "Word's Best Ski Towns." 

Location
Wanaka is a town in Otago region located on the South Island in New Zealand. It is situated at the edge of Lake Wanaka and you can enjoy beautiful scenery. There are three international airport near Wanaka including Queenstown, Dunedin and Christchurch.

How to get there

From Queenstown Airport:

50 minutes drive

From Christchurch Airport:

5 hours drive

To Cardrona:

35 minutes drive

To Treble Cone:

35 minutes drive


To Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown, there are a number of international flights from Australia including Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Australia; and the most convenient access from these International Airports is by coach transfer to Wanaka.

Shuttle buses
For the transfers between resort to resort in Wanaka, there is Wanaka Winter Ski Resort Shuttles. $28 for one way and $35 for return. There are also multi-ride passes for 10 Ride Return and 30 Ride Return which work out slightly cheaper than buying individual one way or return tickets.  

Restaurants & Nightlife
Wide range of restaunrants including fine dining, casual dining, cafe, bars and international cuisines are available and most of them are located on main street and you can also overlook Lake Wanaka during a meal.

Culture
Heli-skiing is one of the most popular attraction in Wanaka as they offer the largest heli-skiing area outside of North America.
Also, as Wanaka is located at the edge of beautiful Lake Wanaka, other activities for non-skiers / non- boarders are fishing and cruising on Lake Wanaka. There are many wineries around Wanaka too and there is day tour that take you to wineries in Otago area.
