Over the last 400 years and through the Edo Samurai period, Manza Onsen has been a secret retreat, which only the local village people had known. Due to the inconvenience of the location, it has infamously been named the "Secret Hot Springs". This onsen lies in a valley between the towering mountains of Gunma, where the water was untouched from agricultural and human advancements. It has also been said to heal illnesses like asthma, headaches, and to cleanse the body and mind. These soothing hot springs and magnificent view are what have kept people coming back.
Manza Prince Hotel provides a total of 10 baths, including 6 outdoor baths. Among the 10 hot springs, there is 3 different styles of baths; Komakusa no yu ‘rotenburo’ (outdoor), Shakunage no yu ‘rotenburo’ (outdoor) and Nanakamado no yu ‘uchiyu’ (indoor). All baths are open 24 hours (except during cleaning hours) and can be heated to 80°c, depending on the climate.

The Manza Onsen Ski Resort offers various ski trails with the driest and lightest powder snow in Japans Northern Alps. As this resort is the highest altitude onsen, enjoy skiing in and out after a relaxing bath with a magnificent view at the base of Mt. Manza.
